Claude Docs brings editable documents into the same conversation where you ask Anthropic’s assistant for help. In its September 16 announcement, the company also introduced Claude Slides and began merging Cowork with chat. The aim is straightforward: ask for the finished work without first choosing a separate mode.
What Claude Docs lets you do
A document can include formatted text, tables and multiple tabs. You can type changes yourself, ask Claude to revise a section or mention it in a comment. Meanwhile, colleagues with editing access can work on the same document.
According to Anthropic’s Docs guide, documents start private. Export options include Word, PDF, Markdown and Google Docs. However, shared links require a Claude account, and Team and Enterprise documents cannot yet leave their organization through sharing.
Slides adds presentation creation inside conversations, with direct editing and PowerPoint or PDF downloads. Claude Design also works there, although its standalone experience remains available. For a team turning research into a briefing and then a deck, that could reduce copying between tools.
Availability has two separate tracks
The combined Cowork-and-chat interface is reaching Pro and Max subscribers gradually on web, desktop and mobile. Team and Free will follow, while Enterprise administrators will receive at least 30 days’ notice before organizational changes.
Claude Docs itself is a paid-plan beta for Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise. It is off by default for Enterprise until an owner enables it. Therefore, the promise that Free users will eventually receive the unified interface does not mean Docs is free today.
The beta limits worth knowing
On mobile, you can request and view documents, but editing and sharing controls require web or desktop. Also, version history is not available yet. Charts do not refresh automatically; you must ask Claude to retrieve newer data.
These limits matter if a document becomes a working team reference rather than a disposable first draft. Keep an exported copy before a major revision, and review the sources behind generated claims before circulating it.
The update builds on moves such as carrying Claude sessions between Chrome and desktop and adding connectors to voice conversations. Still, a single interface will earn its place through the quality of the document it produces, not merely the number of tools behind the chat box.
